Inositol for PCOS (now called PMOS): an honest Philippine buyer's guide

“Legit ba yung inositol sa Shopee? Effective ba?” Inositol is the most-bought supplement among Filipinas with PMOS, formerly PCOS. Here is what the evidence actually says, how the local brands compare per gram, and how to avoid fakes.

Editorially reviewed on October 29, 2026. [TODO: medical reviewer] How we review

Quick answer

Inositol is a food supplement, not a medicine. In the Philippines its labels carry “No approved therapeutic claims.” The 2023 International Guideline says it could be considered if you want to try it, but the clinical benefits are limited (Rec 4.7.1), and for fertility it is experimental (Rec 5.8.1).

If you choose to try it, compare brands by grams of myo-inositol per peso, buy from official stores, and tell your doctor. MyPicos costs ₱26.50 per sachet at Watsons; a 150 g tub of Pure Form costs ₱999 per tub.

The honest evidence

The 2023 International Evidence-based Guideline reviewed the inositol studies and concluded:

  • Rec 4.7.1: inositol, in any form, could be considered based on personal preference, with limited clinical benefits.
  • Rec 5.8.1: for infertility, inositol should be considered experimental therapy. It is not a replacement for letrozole or a fertility consult. See the fertility guide.

So we will not promise you results, because the evidence does not support that. Some women still choose to try it, and that is your choice. If you try it, give it a fair trial, track your cycles, and keep your other care going: the OGTT, lipid profile and any medicines your doctor prescribed.

Watch out for big promises

Sellers and TikTok ads sometimes say inositol will “regulate your period in weeks” or replace your medicines. In the Philippines, food supplements may not make therapeutic claims. A product that promises results is a reason to be more careful, not less.

How it may work

Inositols act as messengers inside cells in the insulin signalling pathway. Because insulin resistance is common in PCOS, researchers have studied whether extra myo-inositol improves insulin response, cycles and ovulation. Some products add D-chiro-inositol, often at a 40:1 myo to D-chiro ratio. The guideline's review found the overall benefit limited, whatever the form.

Who might try it

  • Women who prefer to try a supplement, alongside lifestyle support and regular checks
  • Those who cannot take, or do not want, a medicine right now, after talking it over with a doctor
  • Women trying to conceive who understand it is experimental and who still see a doctor about ovulation

Inositol is not a substitute for a diagnosis. If you have not had your check-up yet, start with the self-check and the cost guide.

Pure Form vs MyPicos vs Wello PCOSol vs TGP

Filipinas on r/PCOSPhilippines ask “Is it more effective than MyPicos and Pureform?” about every new brand. The useful question is not which is “stronger” but how many grams of myo-inositol you get per serving and per peso, and whether the store is official.

A Shopee price of about ₱799 per tub for Pure Form was shared by a user in 2024; Lazada was reportedly cheaper still. Treat marketplace prices as a moving target and check the seller first (see below). Note that TGP's chewable has much less myo-inositol per tablet than a MyPicos sachet, so compare per gram, not per piece.

How to spot fake inositol on Shopee and Lazada

“Asked the official store, sabi naman nila di daw affiliated sa kanila yung store,” one user wrote about a cheaper Pure Form listing (thread). Before you add to cart:

  1. Buy from the brand's official store or a pharmacy. On marketplaces, look for the mall badge (Shopee Mall, LazMall) and confirm with the brand which stores are theirs.
  2. Check the product on the FDA verification portal (verification.fda.gov.ph). Registered food supplements are listed there.
  3. Read the label for “No approved therapeutic claims.” Registered supplements carry it. Missing or misspelled text is a warning sign.
  4. Be wary of prices far below Watsons. A small discount is normal; a very large one can mean old stock, repacked goods or fakes.
  5. Inspect on delivery: intact seal, clear expiry date and lot number, consistent printing. Keep the packaging if you need to report it.
  6. Avoid sellers who make health promises or ask you to stop prescribed medicines.

Fears and questions

“Legit ba yung inositol sa Shopee? Effective ba?”

Which inositol is legit, and does it work?

Inositol is a food supplement with no approved therapeutic claims in the Philippines. The guideline says it could be considered if you want to try it, but the benefits are limited, and it is experimental for fertility (Rec 4.7.1, 5.8.1). Buy from official stores and compare the grams of myo-inositol per serving.

“Ang hirap pumayat kahit anong gawin ko.”

I can't lose weight no matter what I do.

Insulin resistance makes this genuinely harder; it is not a willpower problem. Healthy eating and movement help everyone with PCOS at any weight, and no single diet is best (Rec 3.1.1, 3.3.1). Doctors are also asked to screen for eating disorders regardless of weight (2.5.1).

“May PCOS ako, pwede pa ba mabuntis?”

I have PCOS. Can I still get pregnant?

Yes, most people with PCOS who want a baby can be helped. PCOS is a leading cause of not ovulating, and it is treatable. Letrozole is the first-line medicine to help ovulation (Guideline 5.3.1), with gonadotrophins second line and IVF third line.

Safety

Common side effects

Some people report mild stomach upset, gas or nausea, especially at higher amounts. [TODO: source] Tell your doctor if it bothers you.

Taking it with metformin

Many Filipinas take both. Tell your doctor about every supplement so they can review your full list. See the metformin guide.

Pregnancy and trying to conceive

For fertility, inositol is experimental (Rec 5.8.1). Talk to your OB-GYN before relying on it, and do not delay a fertility consult because of it.

Supplements are checked less than medicines

Food supplements are not checked the way medicines are before they reach shelves. Buy from official stores and check registration on the FDA portal.

Check any medicine's registration on the FDA Philippines verification portal.

This guide is for information. Talk to a doctor before starting or changing any treatment.

Frequently asked questions

Legit ba ang inositol? Effective ba talaga?

It is a food supplement with no approved therapeutic claims in the Philippines. The 2023 Guideline says it could be considered if you want to try it, but the benefits are limited, and it is experimental for fertility.

Pure Form or MyPicos: alin ang mas mura?

Compare cost per gram of myo-inositol, not per pack. Use the calculator on this page with the label in front of you. Prices change often, so check the current listing.

Which inositol brand is legit in the Philippines?

Buy from official pharmacy listings or the brand's own mall store, and check the product on the FDA verification portal. A seller the brand does not recognise is a red flag.

Can inositol help me get pregnant?

The guideline calls inositol experimental for infertility (Rec 5.8.1). Letrozole is the first-line medicine to help ovulation. See a doctor rather than waiting on a supplement.

Can I take inositol with metformin?

Many people do, but tell your doctor about every supplement you take so they can review your full list.

What does 40:1 mean on Pure Form?

It is the ratio of myo-inositol to D-chiro-inositol in the powder. It describes the mix, not how well it works.

How much inositol did studies use?

Our calculator shows daily amounts studies used as context for comparing prices. That is not a recommendation for you; ask your doctor.

Is PMOS the same as PCOS?

Yes. PMOS (polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome) is the new name for PCOS, announced in The Lancet on 12 May 2026. It is the same condition with the same diagnosis and the same treatments. Both names will be used until the 2028 International Guideline update.
