Questions for your OB-GYN about PCOS (English and Taglish)

A short consult goes faster when you walk in with your questions written down. Tick the ones that matter to you. There is a Taglish version on the same sheet so you can use whichever feels natural.

If a doctor makes you feel judged about your weight, you are allowed to ask for another doctor. The 2023 Guideline names weight stigma as harmful (Rec 3.6.1, 3.6.2).

Questions (English)

  • Which of the three PCOS features do I have, and how did you check?
  • Did we rule out thyroid problems and high prolactin?
  • Do I need an ultrasound, or are my cycles and symptoms enough?
  • Can I have a 75 g OGTT and a lipid profile?
  • What are my options for my main goal: regular periods, skin, hair, fertility or metabolic health?
  • If you suggest a pill, which one, and why this one? Is there a cheaper equivalent?
  • Is generic metformin an option for me?
  • How do we protect my womb lining if my periods are far apart?
  • When should I come back, and what will we check then?
  • Should I see an endocrinologist or a dermatologist too?

Mga tanong (Taglish)

  • Alin sa tatlong palatandaan ng PCOS ang meron ako, at paano po ninyo nalaman?
  • Na-check na po ba ang thyroid at prolactin ko?
  • Kailangan ko pa po ba ng ultrasound, o sapat na ang regla at sintomas ko?
  • Pwede po ba akong magpa-75 g OGTT at lipid profile?
  • Ano po ang options para sa goal ko: regular na regla, balat, buhok, pagbubuntis o metabolic health?
  • Kung pills po, alin at bakit ito? May mas murang kapareho po ba?

A respectful script for asking for tests

"I read the 2023 International PCOS Guideline. It recommends an OGTT and a lipid profile at diagnosis. Could we include those, or tell me why I don't need them?"

"Doc, nabasa ko po sa 2023 International PCOS Guideline na nirerekomenda ang OGTT at lipid profile sa diagnosis. Pwede po ba nating isama, o bakit po hindi ko kailangan?"
